PERSISTENT HEMATURIA – SUSPECTED KLIPPEL–TRENAUNAY SYNDROME
Admission Diagnosis: A 25-year-old woman presented with prolonged hematuria, significant blood loss, and dizziness.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Skin lesions, right-sided limb enlargement, cystoscopy, and MRI findings suggested Klippel–Trenaunay syndrome, a rare congenital vascular disorder.
She received blood transfusions, bladder irrigation, and bleeding control before referral for specialized treatment.
SUCCESSFUL SKIN GRAFTING FOR DEEP KNEE BURN
Admission Diagnosis: A 28-year-old patient sustained a third-degree thermal burn involving approximately 5% of the body surface area around the right knee.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Surgeons performed surgical debridement followed by split-thickness autologous skin grafting to cover the tissue defect. Five days after surgery, the graft showed satisfactory healing. The patient continued wound care and rehabilitation.
Treating Department: Department of Surgery and Obstetrics, Duc Minh General Hospital.
RARE FAHR SYNDROME IDENTIFIED IN PATIENT WITH SEVERE HEADACHES
Admission Diagnosis: A patient was admitted to Duc Minh General Hospital with severe, recurrent headaches affecting daily activities.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Brain CT revealed bilateral symmetrical calcifications. Further investigations identified secondary Fahr syndrome associated with calcium–phosphate metabolism disorders caused by atypical hypoparathyroidism.
Identifying the underlying endocrine disorder enabled physicians to develop an appropriate treatment plan.
SUCCESSFUL ENDOSCOPIC REMOVAL OF A 4 CM NASAL POLYP IN A 9Y BOY
Admission Diagnosis: A 9-year-old boy presented with persistent nasal obstruction and discharge.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Nasal endoscopy and imaging revealed a 4 cm polyp filling the left maxillary sinus and extending into the nasal cavity and nasopharynx.
Endoscopic surgery successfully removed the polyp and cleared the affected sinuses. The patient recovered well with significant symptom improvement.
PULMONARY FLUKE INFECTION CAUSING BILATERAL PLEURAL EFFUSION IN A 6 YEAR OLD CHILD
Admission Diagnosis: A malnourished 6-year-old child (15 kg) presented with persistent cough, breathing difficulties, and significant bilateral pleural effusion.
Diagnosis and Treatment: CT imaging revealed intestinal worms and biliary parasitic infestation. Further testing confirmed pulmonary fluke infection (paragonimiasis).
The patient received respiratory support, pleural fluid drainage, and specific antiparasitic treatment, with gradual respiratory improvement.
SKIN RASH AND HIGH FEVER – SUSPECTED MYCOPLASMA INFECTION
Admission Diagnosis: A 17-year-old patient presented with high fever and widespread erythematous rashes on the chest, back, abdomen, groin, and thighs.
Diagnosis and Treatment: Elevated white blood cell count and CRP suggested an inflammatory or infectious process. Physicians at Duc Minh General Hospital suspected Mycoplasma infection and continued investigations to distinguish infection-related rashes from allergic or vasculitic conditions.
Treatment decisions, including antibiotic use, depend on identifying the underlying cause.
